Adding In Some Color

It's so very rare that I'm not wearing black in one way or another. But I managed to put together an entire look with no black (and no brown or navy either!).  I've added in pops of rather neutral colors to add some warmth to my outfit. Let's break it down...

The Dress: I decided to wear a dress that is a rather neutral color, a deep green. In certain light it almost looks navy. The green paired with gold, white, and burgundy brush strokes makes it seem colorful and fun without being too bold or over the top. Hey, baby steps!

The Coat: Wearing a coat that's color is as soft as the texture (I mean who doesn't love teddy bear coats?!?!) it a double winner in my book. This very light pink coat also pairs so well with the red tones from the burgundy.

The Shoes: Who wants to wear boring black or brown shoes when you have the option of metallic? I love the way these gold loafers pair with the gold buttons and gold flecks of color on the dress.

The Tights: Lastly, we need to talk about legwear. Personally, I live for tights! I feel that they finish every outfit off...and depending on the color and style can really change an outfit completely. I paired this dress with some more burgundy...because, well why not?!

I want to know how you incorporate color into your everyday looks. Are you subtle about it? Do you go bright and bold? Do you not wear color at all?

Let It Snow!

So this morning my husband and I decided to go outside and take some photos but Mother Nature was not going to cooperate with us. It started snowing (which I hate)...but I decided to grin and bear it because I had to show you all this fun outfit! Oh the things I do for you guys!

With it almost being New Year's Eve, I thought I would do my own little countdown of my ten best moments of 2017.

10. Having our nephew spend some time with us this summer. It was fun seeing the city through his eyes...not to mention every single public bathroom NYC has to offer.

9. Discovering a bunch of new food, restaurants, and bars in the city. You think that we've been here long enough that there are very few things we can try that are new and exciting to us. Jaded New Yorkers...that we are. But This year I tried kimbab (or as some say kimbap, gimbap, or kimbob), found a hidden pinball bar behind a secret door in a laundromat, drank a deconstructed latte, and perfected making my avocado toast.

8. Finally seeing Wicked on Broadway! Yeah, I know I'm like the last person to see this show...but it was perfect and such a great birthday present from my sweetie.

7. Cheering on one of my dear friends as she ran the NYC Marathon. Such an amazing accomplishment for her...and I have to say, our cheer section was pretty epic.

6. Taking part in the Women's March in NYC. I almost didn't attend since I'm not really a fan of crowds, but this was one of the most meaningful experiences I ever had.

5. This might not seem like a best moment to some...but when I healed from my burst appendix. The fact that my body was able to be strong enough to deal with my appendix literally bursting off (they can't even find it now) and not even needing surgery is pretty amazing. I overcame something that could have easily killed me, and now I'm on a mission to keep my body even stronger and healthier than ever.

4. A fantastic trip to Montreal. Even though the weather was terrible we had a great time in that city. Not only did we eat some of the best food ever there (if you're going I can tell you an place for delicious fried chicken), we also saw an awesome show that Franz Ferdinand put on. It was probably one of my favorite concert experiences I have ever had.

3. NYFW F/W 2017 and NYFW S/S 2018. So many shows, so many parties, and great times with friends. I cannot wait for February to roll around so I can do it all over again!

2. My trip to Spain. We had such a wonderful time in Granada and Barcelona, and I cannot wait to go back some day. We had the best food and saw the most beautiful architecture. These memories will live with me forever.

1. Responding to all the sweet comments, kind emails, and encouraging messages from my readers! You guys are all so awesome and make me want to keep putting my all into Snapshot Fashion. I appreciate how you've all hung in there over my slow posts the last couple months...and to all of you that have been with me since this blogging journey started nine and a half years ago! xoxo

What were your best moments of 2017?

Keeping It Casual

Hello dear readers! Many apologies for the brief hiatus. As most of you who have been following my Instagram feed know, I was just released from the hospital last week. My appendix had burst and I was stuck there for some time. I'm doing a lot better now (as you can see in the photos below), but I still have to have surgery in a little over a month from now. So I'm not out of the woods yet. But until then I'm going to put a smile on my face as I am so happy to be home with my husband and pup...and also so very happy that autumn keeps teasing us with cool mornings...which I love!

I have been trying to incorporate some more casual pieces into my wardrobe lately. You'd really be stunned if you saw all the dresses in my closet. Yes, I typically wear them on the weekends too. I do this because finding a pair of jeans that actually fits me is to difficult. These high waisted slim flare jeans in black are so great because you can dress them up or dress them down. I'm obsessed with them!

I decided to pair them with this adorable sweatshirt. Isn't it just too cute? Leopard print, 3/4 sleeves, and not too big or baggy. It's the dressiest sweatshirt I own. Okay, It's probably the only sweatshirt I own...but I love it!

Last month during New York Fashion Week I was invited to the launch party for LF/LIFE. It was such a fun party...one of the best parts being that they had a shoe bar there. I picked out these fantastic gold loafers. Personally, I think you can never go wrong with a metallic shoe (trust me on this, I have silver, metallic pink, and now gold). LF/LIFE's shoes are so comfy...I have been living in these loafers ever since the party.

Here's to a comfy, cool, and casual weekend. Hope you all have a good one!

Just Around the Corner: NYFW

I hope you all are having a great Labor Day! I have to say, it's been so great having a four day weekend. But instead of occupying my weekend with beaches, BBQ's, and the stress of should you or shouldn't you wear white after Labor Day, I'm anticipating New York Fashion Week!

I can't believe New York Fashion Week is here already. I have a few shows and events I'll be heading to this week and next. So if you are attending anything let me know! It's so rare that I get a plus one to anything at NYFW...and it's always way more fun to know people who are in attendance. Also, if you are in town and want to meet up for a coffee or cocktail before or in between shows just let me know. NYFW is always such a great time to meet other bloggers.

Walk on the Wild Side

With fall just around the corner I'm starting to slip some key fall pieces into my wardrobe...like booties. It's such an easy way to start transitioning your wardrobe. I picked up three pairs of booties this past week...and I'm wearing them constantly. Also, they all have huge chunky heels which I love because they are easy to walk around the city in, and they make me crazy tall.

Who says simple has to be boring? When I saw this relatively simple black dress I knew I had to add it to my wardrobe. It's very simple and comfortable, but the cut out feature along the neckline and the draping elevates it to the next level.

I also paired it with my new chunky booties and fishnet ankle socks for that added edge factor. I've been wanting to try this fishnet sock trend for some time now. Here I incorporated them into this look as my accessory. No bold jewelry or flashy handbag needed.

How do you add some fun and personality to what could be a very basic outfit?
