Refreshed in July

I hope you all are doing well. July has been refreshing to me: I’ve been taking a few days off of work this month to refresh and regroup. I added a few new pieces to my wardrobe to refresh my looks. And yesterday I finally was able to refresh my hair color (thank goodness)! I almost feel human again!!!

What do you guys think of jumpsuits? I personally think they are a great alternative to a dress. They keep you looking very put together and chic. I love to just throw something on without having to put much thought into it, and know it will look good.

I actually got this exact jumpsuit in another print as well. It is just too cute! Also, it’s extremely light weight and perfect for the summer heat.

Lastly, I just want to say I hope you all are staying safe during these crazy Coronavirus times. I know here in NYC numbers have been down…but I personally have still been staying quarantined in my apartment 95% of the time and staying away from people. Overly cautious? Maybe. But I’m not willing to chance anything. Hope you all are wearing your masks and staying healthy.

Summer Dots

Summer officially arrived yesterday…and I’m not going to lie, I’m already counting down the days until fall (autumn is my favorite season). I hate being hot, but one thing that is keeping me cool is this adorable linen polka dot skirt that I bought out of my friend Nicole’s (aka Darling in Dots) closet.

This summer is going to look a little different for me, and I’m sure many of you. With COVID-19 still infecting people every day, I personally still don’t feel very comfortable outside for long amounts of time. It’s so hot under my mask (I took it off for one minute to snap these photos) that I would just prefer to go sit in my air conditioned apartment.

I will be sad that this summer will have no BBQs, no rooftop parties, no concerts…it’s going to be boring. But if that means it will keep me healthy, I’m okay with that. I might be going overboard with keeping my social distance, but with all the health issues I have I just can’t afford to chance anything.

So until this virus is GONE i will continue to wear polka dots, go on morning walks before the crowds in my neighborhood grow and the summer sun gets too hot, and enjoy the extra time with my dog and my husband as we’ve all been quarantined together since March…and I really would not want it any other way.

How are you planning on enjoying your summer?

Prints on Prints

I’ve always found pattern mixing rather difficult but lately have tried stepping out of my comfort zone a little with this style. I thought I’d take the opportunity to share my pattern mixing tips with all of you!

1) Use animal prints as a neutral.

2) Keep hues of different prints in the same color palette.

3) Don’t be afraid to mix florals, animal prints, stripes, or polka dots…but try to keep the patterns to two or three. You don’t want to be mixing seven patterns head to toe!

4) Have one print be the focus and another be the accent.

I hope this helps make you all feel comfortable with stepping our of your comfort zone and mixing up the patterns in your wardrobe a little. We all need to have a little fun with fashion…otherwise life is boring!

What are your favorite patterns to mix?

Accessorize Your Quarantine Look

I’m not sure about you, but my wardrobe hasn’t been too exciting lately. I’m still working from home which means sitting at my computer all day long. I have so many pretty work appropriate dresses just sitting in my closet, but I can’t bring myself to wear them right now. I know, some fashion blogger I am. But the one thing that I have been embracing during this quarantine time at home are accessories.

I have been wearing bold lips, earrings (I even opened up some semi-closed earring holes as a quarantine project), and headbands. I think headbands are the easiest thing you can throw on to jazz up any look.

This satin headband I just picked up from J.Crew is so adorable. Not only is it my favorite color combo (red and pink!), but the bow can bend and move. How fun is that!?!? So the next time you are dressed down (errr…tomorrow?) and your hair is a mess try throwing on a cute headband instead of putting your hair up in a ponytail. It will definitely elevate your style!

Let's Be Real

If anything has come from IG-gate (yes, that’s what I’ll call it), is that going forward I want to be completely honest with my readers and keep it real. So often with blogging we get caught up behind smoke and mirrors and feel the pressure to keep things looking amazing to entertain and inspire our readers. But I’m not perfect, and neither is life. This is me, being me. Comfortable, at home…casual, and frizzy hair.

I feel like me losing 8 years of work and all my contacts on my Instagram platform and having to start again from scratch makes me feel stripped down and vulnerable. But I think I’m going to just go with the flow. For someone like myself taking things day by day and being easy going doesn’t come easy.

I like to plan. I like to be a step ahead. Most of my friends would not ever describe me as spontaneous. But I think maybe this all happened for a reason and I need to just embrace it and I hope you all come along for the ride.

I hope you all stay with me, and let me know what you want to see from the new and improved Snapshot Fashion and my very newly created snapshotfashionNYC Instagram account. Help be a part of the creative process! Leave me some comments or DM me. I’d love to hear from you.
