United We March
Yesterday was crazy. In the morning I thought I was going to just have a quiet afternoon at home with no real plans. A friend of mine made a decision yesterday morning to attend the Women's March in NYC. I went back and forth with the idea of joining her all morning...should I attend (I wanted to!)...but my anxiety about mass crowds can be kind of overwhelming. Yes, I may live in NYC...but crowds of 400,000 (!) are a whole new ballgame. So, at 12:10pm I made the decision to join her. I had 50 minute to make a sign and get to midtown with her. Ahhh...the pressure was on!
I have to say, my last minute decision to join her was one of the best I ever made. We joined the old and young, men and women, and people of every race and ethnicity all in solidarity expressing how important women's rights are. Everyone was so insanely polite, smiles were seen, and laughter among strangers was heard. It was such an amazing experience that I am so proud to say I was a part of. It was a historic day that not only made me proud to be a New Yorker, but proud to be an American.
Did you march yesterday? I would love to hear your stories!
